Pittsburgh had a cool, mostly dry weekend, with highs near 70, lows of 50 and 53, and just 0.03 inches of drizzle Sunday. The weekend held the Junior Great Race, a bilingual storytime, a caterpillar hunt at the Frick, sugar painting at the night market and kids' martial arts and breakdancing.

The Junior Great Race at Point State Park had a Family Fun Run for ages 5 to 12, a Tot Trot for ages 4 and under and a Diaper Dash, with parents running alongside.

B is for Books hosted a free English and Mandarin retelling of The Three Little Pigs with songs, movement and hands-on activities. No Chinese experience was needed.
The Frick Pittsburgh ran a free Time-traveling Caterpillar Scavenger Hunt, sending kids to find Gustave the Caterpillar around the site and trade a finished sheet for a prize.
The Chinese Library for Children booth at the Squirrel Hill Night Market showed kids traditional sugar painting, where melted sugar becomes animals and flowers, and let them try their own. It was free.

Also Saturday: Scouting America Zoo Day took over the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium with a scavenger hunt, Meet the Keeper sessions, feeding demonstrations and crafts, free for kids with zoo admission. (Price not listed · Indoors and out)
Also Saturday: Read to a Mystery Pal at Penn Hills Library let kids in grades K through 5 earn a Reader Badge by reading to a surprise character hidden around the library. (Free · Indoors)

Los Sabrosos Dance Co taught Breakin' for Kids 1 for ages 7-12, an easy first class in breakdancing that broke each step down and ended with open questions.
